In the last newsletter, we promised a tour of the completed Pollenca apartment project. Our clients have kindly allowed us to share the images of their island retreat and their story.
Mallorca had slowly but surely become a home from home, having spent many years at their island apartment and island-based yacht. They had only one box to tick to make their Balearic escapes perfect …a sea view! Their nautical life meant that, even when land-based, proximity to the water is of the essence, so when an apartment became available with a port side view they snapped it up. The apartment was perfectly positioned and from there everything else was solvable!
Barr Baleares were recommended by our client’s friends, who had first-hand experience of the Barr Group – through works carried out in the UK. Initially looking for a new kitchen and bathrooms it soon became clear that a complete overhaul was required. On meeting Barr Baleares directors James and Stuart, they felt confident that the company was perfectly placed to bring their vision to life.
The brief was for reform was straightforward… streamlined comfort with a touch of Mallorcan style! The complete renovation included electricals and mechanicals, heating, lighting, kitchen and bathroom installations, flooring, plastering, finishes and furnishings. In this case, turn-key service from Barr Baleares included complete design, sourcing and procurement by Barr Design, allowing the client to relax in the knowledge that absolutely everything was being taken care of.
Other touches such as the stone tiles running seamlessly from inside - out increase the perceived floorspace. The terrace is simply and elegantly furnished with a rustic stone-topped table, complete with driftwood base and timeless steamer style loungers. Inside timber, rattan and jute touches add warmth and the trademark Barr Design ‘black line’ features subtly in furnishings and fixings, giving a contemporary feel.
The apartment is located on the first floor of a 1970’s apartment building, where any change to the external appearance of the individual units is prohibited. As such the team worked with and around the existing external fixtures and fittings such as railings, aperture frames, doors and windows. Similarly, over the five months it took to complete the works the team were acutely aware that their activity may impact on the day to day lives of other residents - so ensured work rules were in place to minimise any disruption.
Our wonderful clients made the project an absolute pleasure for everyone involved … “their love of life and of the island were totally contagious” says Barr Baleares project manager Anna. “It was such a pleasure to be facilitating things like installation of their wood burner and the bespoke kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, all of which give the finished apartment a home-from-home vibe, which we hope will make the apartment comfortable for years to come.”
