Back in March Coronavirus brought an abrupt halt to our activities, along with everything else on the island. For the Barr Baleares team, getting back to doing what we LOVE; building life-enhancing spaces for like-minded individuals has made us realise how lucky we are.
Over the past weeks, we have all faced the challenge of adapting our work and day to day living to the dramatically different circumstances in which we all find ourselves. Current Barr Baleares client, photographer Ana Lui, is a great example of the creative re-invention which often comes from enforced change.
An experienced and highly respected commercial photographer, Ana Lui works as part of the Condé Nast Traveller masthead team. In between far-flung photoshoots she practices and studies quantum healing (IQM) – techniques which have become deeply intertwined in her photography work and her day to day living. Her desire to share her technical expertise, as well as the holistic ethos behind it, has meant that teaching is an organic extension of her work.
A few days into lockdown Ana Lui set about converting her group coaching sessions into a live online format. Unsurprisingly, there was an immediate demand from those hungry for a deeper insight into the creative process behind her exceptional imagery. Ana Lui’s three day live online group courses outline the strategies and ethos she uses in her work, from prep before shooting through to consistency editing. Most importantly she shares her emphasis on the holistic side of photography - shooting with intention, with a focus on mindfulness and positive energy.
Ana and her fiancé have been Balearic based for thirteen years, with their own property search beginning some time ago in Ibiza. However, as they were searching for land (on which to grow their own fresh produce) a commodity not easily available there - they extended their search to include the Mallorcan countryside. It was love at first sight with the derelict hillside Finca. Positive forces were with them and the auction went their way. The Finca, with its wonderful mountain views and abundant acreage it seemed, was destined to become theirs. They both love the Finca’s authentic stonework, natural cement finishes and original features – which they are working to preserve and enhance.
Over the past year, the Barr Baleares team has had the privilege of playing a part in making the island their new home. Introduced to the team by a Barr Group client and friend, Jamie Strachan of HiP Creative Consulting, the team have worked with the couple and other specialists, to restore and renovate the Finca. With plans by 25 Projects (based in Palma) and finish and design by Ana Lui herself, the Finca is now in the later stages of works.
All imagery included in this blog is Ana Lui’s own ‘iPhone in-progress’ shots, you can follow her Instagram journey at @casamanamallorca. We very much look forward to the finished pictures later in the summer.
